JUVIA DAY 2023: Hare Hare
Gray Fullbuster, Juvia Lockser June 3, 2023 Posted: June 30, 2023
Writer’s Corner: Before June ends, I'd like to share this something I came up with for Juvia Day. A little bit late but I heard we are experiencing some Gruvia drought, so here's me trying... Enjoy!
P.S. thank you for the correction regarding Keyes/Keith, @groovyah!!!
HAPPY JUVIA DAY!

How long has it been since Gray had been dragging his feet along the rough road? He stopped caring two towns ago. All that thinking only made the road grow wider. So, he decided it was better to keep his mouth shut behind the redhead leading their journey. All Gray wanted was just a little bit of information about the next dragon god they are trying to seal away. Was that too much to ask? He’d really like to put some timeline into this journey because, if he was being honest, Gray was not getting any younger and there were some things he wanted to do after this quest. But if he was really, really, being honest, he kinda, sorta looking forward to seeing a certain someone.
“Oh, this looks familiar.” It was Lucy who first noticed.
How she kept that cheery spirit in her voice was beyond Gray.
But, true enough, Gray was greeted by a familiar intersection, marked by shabby and wooden signage. He’d seen it far too many times not to recognize the arrow pointing to home – Magnolia.
Magnolia. Fairytail. Home.
That’s how that thought always flowed. Fairytail has always been home. Lately, however, his thoughts ended on something else.
Fairytail. Home. Juvia.
He wasn’t sure when it started. When she became the end of that train of thought. All he knew was when he thought of home, the picture of her blue waves, sparkling eyes, welcoming smile, and soft voice that called out to him lovingly, started to stake a claim on his consciousness.
Gray-sama, welcome home.
“It’s been a while since the last time.”
The Requip mage suggested they regroup at the guild and return to their journey after gathering some intel. Besides, they all needed to recuperate and deserved to have fun after the draining fight at the Labyrinth.
“Alright!” Exclaimed the fire-dragon slayer. “Let’s meet everyone!”
The anticipation brought some energy back to the travel party. So much so that they all agreed on how they looked forward to seeing their guild members. In Gray’s case, there was one particular member whose picture slowly and clearly appeared in his mind.
Gray-sama!
He probably didn’t notice it himself but the thought of seeing Juvia had its wicked way to arc the line of Gray’s lips.
...
The guild was rowdy as ever but the chaos brought in by Team Natsu, with two other dragon-slayers in tow, was most welcomed. They greeted each other with the excitement of an unexpected reunion. Yet amidst that chaos, Gray was able to cut through the cacophony of crazy and made his way to where his thoughts had lain lately – Juvia Lockser. Before he could take a step further, the water-mage was already walking toward him.
“Oh! My! Gray! Samaaaaaa!” Her every step was accentuated by her sweet greeting.
Juvia tackled him to the ground with the sheer force of her embrace. Then she said something, something about thinking so much of Gray that she had physically turned into him.
“That makes no sense!” He barked without thinking.
They were always like this. She’d say something ridiculous and he’d react like Juvia’s thinking was outside the realm of logic. He was so used to the crazy that his responses had become automated. But it’s not that she always said something impossible. His consciousness would like to correct him, however, when he suddenly remembered the fight he had with Sai.
Love Bond
His tone quickly dropped as the memory hit him like an arrow.
I transmuted your “bond”…
“No… it was that…” Gray avoided Juvia’s expectant gaze, scratching the back of his head thinking it might somehow redirect her attention away from his face.
“Could it be that you took on Juvia’s form as well?”
with the woman you’re in love with.
He didn’t want Juvia to see him fight this sudden rush of heat. So, he played it cool, like always.
“Well, it’s just…”
While he was thinking of a way to properly formulate his answer, so that she wouldn’t twist it into something out of this world, the alchemist’s words kept repeating in his head, louder by the minute.
the woman you’re in love with
Cornered, Gray mustered enough courage to take a peep at the water-mage, who was beaming at him with the smile that seemed forever imprinted on Gray’s mind. She looked like she wasn’t really waiting for an answer, content in just making conversation. That gave Gray some space to breathe. He wasn’t really sure how to explain to Juvia what the love bond alchemy was without confessing–confusing! without confusing her. But come to think of it, Juvia’s theory about why she turned into Gray that day wasn’t too far from possible.
As if sensing his intention, Juvia quickly dropped the subject. He led Gray towards the table where Natsu was already starting some commotion. The ice-mage didn’t need an invitation to join that circus. He effortlessly merged into the chaos – an old habit. Juvia was more than happy to stay out of the riotous entanglement. Glad on simply hollering for him at the sidelines – her old and still most favorite hobby. It shouldn’t come as a surprise how easily they both fell into the usual.
Gray ought to laugh at himself though. He should have realized it by now; Juvia was so attuned to his feelings that he didn’t even have to say it. Juvia just knew. She already knew.
The snow fairy toys with the women sleeping in the depths of your heart.
Gray-sama…
...
The reunion at the guild wrapped up in a tangled mess of passed-out drunks and beaten-up sobers. Good thing Gray still had full control of his faculties, and so did Juvia. He had the mindfulness of being sober enough to walk Juvia home; finally getting some alone time with her.
The walk to Fairy Hills was, in fact, far but seemed too short to recount all of Gray’s stories of his travels. He wasn’t the talkative type. Actually, he’d much rather let his fists talk than his mouth. But they’ve spent so much time apart that there were a lot of funny and incredible moments worth sharing. As Gray retold his stories, Juvia filled all the spaces with small reactions, going through the entire spectrum of emotions. When he ran out of things to say, he’d notice the few changes his absence did to Juvia – like how her hair grew a bit longer. Her bangs started to level to her eyes and framed her face a bit differently than he remembered. There was something about her, something he couldn’t pinpoint exactly. In the way she walked or spoke, it felt as if she matured in his absence. Has she grown taller? Her clothes, he noticed, were becoming tight around some areas of her body – he scolded himself at the last one because it brought back the memory of Juvina-sama stripping naked in front of him.
“You don’t look all right, Gray-sama. Is something wrong?”
Gray had to push that memory to the farthest back of his mind. He knew, even if Juvina was a spitting image of Juvia, the water-mage would never forgive her for flashing Gray. She would hunt the poor celebrity down.
Imagining what Juvia would do to her, Gray actually felt bad for Juvina-sama.
“N-nothing.”
When they reached the front of the female dormitory, Gray felt a tug of disappointment. An anxious nag that he was leaving something important. It wasn’t too big a feeling but enough to recognize what it was. And with it came another, one that told him he couldn’t wait to see her again or made him wonder when the next time would be. Team Natsu was planning to travel to Gazania and visit Sabertooth’s comprehensive library for some information. It would take Erza one more day to gather all the essentials for the long trip. After that, he wasn’t too sure when would be able to see Juvia again. The thought pushed Gray to resolve his feelings and decide to see her again if her schedule would allow it.
“Juvia, are you free tomorrow?”
“Juvia will make herself free!”
Gray panicked at Juvia’s sudden change of demeanor. And here he was, feeling regretful that she had actually matured in his absence, that maybe she’d changed into someone he wouldn’t recognize. And while it wasn’t all too new and surprising, Gray still wasn’t okay with the fact that Juvia would abandon everything for his sake.
He didn’t deserve it.
“No, I only meant…” it wasn’t like he didn’t like it, “if you’re… coincidentally if you don’t have anything to do, y’know.” It just felt like he was asking too much from her if she had to rearrange her day to accommodate him.
“Juvia can get out of anything to spend time with Gray-sama.” Seeing how her enthusiasm put Gray in an awkward position, Juvia clarified, “Since, Gray-sama will be gone for a long time again.”
“That’s…” Guilt clawed at Gray and he would have let it gnaw at him if it wasn’t for Juvia’s gentle smile and understanding gaze. So, he expelled a sigh of complete resignation. He was allowed to be selfish sometimes, wasn’t he?
“Alright, then. Let’s go out tomorrow.”
“D-d-date?!”
Gray could easily predict what would happen – and that’s carrying Juvia into the dormitory, bridal style, and explaining to the agitated swordswoman why exactly was Juvia mumbling ‘gray-sama, juvia, first date’ in a trance.
...
Gray wasn’t particularly nervous about today. He had everything in order. He wasn't a planner. Gray was the kind that lived life day by day. Went with the flow. Sailed with the tides. Nevertheless, he had a general idea of how this day would go down. He already had the checklist in his head, mentally ticking off the boxes per accomplishment.
Ask Juvia on a dat-HANG OUT. Ask Juvia to hang out while he was still in town – mentally crossed off the list. Although he initially planned on picking her up at Fairy Hills, his indiscretion the night before led him to be banned from hanging around the all-girls dormitory. While his unconscious stripping was nothing new to the Fairy Tail girls, Erza still felt the need to discipline his public exhibition. Hence, the 2-year ban. So, the two agreed to meet each other at the guild.
Gray caught himself stripping midway to the guild. He quickly ran back to find his abandoned coat and slipped back into it.
“That was close!” He exclaimed. He, at least, wanted to meet Juvia on their date HANG OUT decent.
He couldn’t help it though; the sun was unusually bright today. He shielded his eyes and quickly regretted daring to stare directly up at the sun. But he was glad. The weather was fine. More than fine actually, suitable for today’s destination – the amusement park. News about a newly opened amusement park reached beyond the borders of Magnolia. He heard about the opening while traveling back and he was curious to see it since then. He could already imagine trying all the fun rides the park boasted, adding a small bounce on his steps.
He turned the corner and jumped back. He wasn’t expecting Juvia to be so early. He, at least, wanted to be the one waiting for her but the water mage was already standing under the shade of Bake Bake Shop's awning. What really surprised Gray, making his breath hitch in his throat, was that Juvia looked different. She wasn't wearing her usual clothes. Instead, Juvia opted for a flowy skirt shorter than the one she commonly used. She paired it up with a strapless top and some high boots and completed her look with a brown puffy bonnet atop her head. Juvia had never looked this casual and c-c-cute…
He wondered how long she had been standing there. And, how long has she been fending off those losers walking up to her and trying to strike up a conversation?
His astonished eyes quickly gloomed.
But Gray had nothing to worry about. He, himself, said it, Juvia was one of the strongest mages of Fairy Tail. She defeated Keith/Keyes, one of the Demon Gates. And there was no question Juvia could have ended Invel too, a Spriggan 12. The water mage was a force to be reckoned with. He didn’t need to worry for her safety, though he was allowed to, and let himself do so every now and then. He didn’t need to worry about other men hanging around the watermage; for Juvia only had eyes for her Gray-sama.
“Sorry. Juvia is waiting for her Gray-sama.”
Gray had only seen that void in Juvia’s eyes on a few occasions. When she was still a member of Phantom Lord. When she was still the rain woman, her eyes were filled with a pointed gloom of disinterest – in life and in other people’s business. It vanished when she became part of Fairytail and when he came into her life. Sometimes, he’d entertain the illusion that he was the one who brought those sparks into her lovely blue eyes. She claimed that he did but that was too grand an illusion. So, for now, he’d settle for being the center of those ocean eyes.
“Gray-sama!”
There! There it was the brightest glimmer in her round orbs. As sparkly as the ocean being kissed by the sun. They shone because and for Gray – only for him.
Gray met her half way, approaching Juvia who scampered towards him. He waited for the tackle, like she always did when they saw each other, and if he was being honest, he wouldn’t mind it. Only to show those losers why they shouldn’t be approaching the water mage. But she settled on just beaming at him in her cute ensemble; the short skirt swaying along as she moved.
“Where is Gray-sama taking Juvia?”
He answered her smile with his cool, pompous grin. Well, he wasn’t being cocky at Juvia. Gray just wanted to show those bastards.
“You’ll see.”
Oh, if only the bastards could see Gray now, his cool, cocky grin trembling at the sight of the sign plastered at the gate – CLOSED FOR RENOVATION.
"I-I… I should have ch-ch-checked yesterday." He lamented.
AMUSEMENT PARK DATE HANG OUT - X
Juvia, who was hiding an amused smile behind one hand, was not at all disappointed. She was just happy to be spending time with Gray, just the two of them. Juvia couldn’t ask for more.
"It's alright, Gray-sama." Juvia placed a consoling hand on Gray's shoulder. "Juvia doesn't mind just walking around."
Gray turned a heel, letting Juvia push him back to the road where they came from, as he kept mumbling a dejected 'no'. Now, he was the one in a daze. Because, what a major bullcrap that was; he was really looking forward to trying the rides all day.
Juvia started a conversation to keep him from sulking. He noticed, however, that she kept fidgeting beside him. She was playing with her fingers, unsure where to keep her hand between them. Gray didn't notice himself already staring at it, at Juvia's hand. Then, he started to become conscious of his own kept inside his pants pocket. There was something off about just keeping his hands in there, which he found strange because he never noticed anything wrong about it before. So, to redress this unsettling feeling, Gray pulled one hand out of his pocket and, as he was about to reach out and seek Juvia's, something swooped in between and knocked them apart.
Of course, he had to check first if Juvia was okay before he screamed at the bastard who slipped in between them.
"Hey, watch it!"
"Sorry, mister!"
It was a kid who looked no older than Greige from Edolas.
Greige.
A mental picture of his and Juvia’s child, his cute little face and aloof eyes, tugged a string in his heart.
"Storm-chan, please wait for onii-chan!"
A young man apologized to the two mages, bowing his head so desperately that Gray thought he was going to break his back. Then, grabbed the kid and went along. He seemed troubled by his little brother but now that he carried the child in his arms, onii-chan seemed unbothered by it. They laughed together as they went their way. That’s when Gray noticed the colorful donut floater the young man had circled around his arm.
The brothers were headed to the beach.
That seems like a good idea, Gray thought.
Hit with excitement knowing today may not be a waste after all, Gray grabbed Juvia’s hand, leading her in the race to the nearest beach in town. Juvia was more than happy to be dragged along by him. How could she not when Gray never let go of her hand the entire train ride? Even when he seemed to have finally noticed it because he turned his face away and spewed something about holding hands being a normal thing.
Finally, something right was happening.
or so they thought.
Now, Gray's mood wasn't the only thing dampened by the depressing turn of events, forcing the two to find shelter from the sudden downpour. They were both soaking wet.
Way to rain on Gray's parade, quite literally.
Gray scowled at the curtain of water holding them hostage under some makeshift shed. He pushed out his hand, his palm testing the stream spilling over the roof. By doing so, he’d be able to tell if the rain was about to stop and if they could still salvage whatever remained of their day. With the strength of the rainfall, it wasn’t anytime soon. He hissed.
"This isn't Juvia's doing."
Gray, surprised at the confession, turned to Juvia with a confused look. Of course, this gloomy weather wasn't because of Juvia. His face contorted into utter confusion. How could she even assume that idea ever crossed Gray's mind?
The old Gray, the one who didn't fully understand her, would have scolded her for even entertaining those thoughts. But that version of himself was long gone now. This new Gray understood Juvia at her very core.
"I know." Was all he said, offering the sulking water mage a soft smile, one that said he would never think that. Not in a hundred years.
Because Gray-sama was the one who stopped Juvia's rain.
"Know what, to hell with this." He grabbed Juvia by the hand and pulled her out into the pouring rain. "Who says we can't have fun, eh?"
Soaking wet, the two crazy teenagers, as the onlookers anointed them, sprinted to the beach, unafraid of the strong waves hitting the shore; the sheer force of it dragged Gray and Juvia as it pulled back. They played so carelessly, splashing each other or pushing one another into the water. Then they'd share childish giggles at how silly they might have seemed. They walked on the coastal lane too, feeling the wet sand on the flat of their feet, lumps sticking between the toes.
Gray would remember something stupid Natsu said or did, or an embarrassing episode happening to Lucy. He remembered that one time when he took the last stick of grilled squid, which was meant for Erza, and thought he was going to finally meet his end. Fear crossed Juvia’s face who was absorbed with the story. Knowing the Requip Mage, Gray’s apprehensions weren’t unfounded.
Juvia would recount a few of her own stories too; telling him she went on a job with Lisanna where they had to wear funny costumes. She was a tree and Lisanna was a mountain. Gray almost broke his back laughing.
When Gray's stomach started to protest, he had the bright idea of dining al fresco. Well, they really had no other choice. No restaurant owner in their right mind would let a drenched couple dine inside. So, they settled on a small coffee table and took a shed under its large umbrella. Gray had no problem ordering shaved ice despite that weather. As much as Juvia wanted to share with him, she wouldn't survive a combination of wet clothes, rainy weather, and cold dessert. A cup of hot cocoa was the far better choice.
Juvia took a sip, the hot sweet liquid sliding from her throat and down to her stomach, warming up her insides. The water mage let out a satisfied sigh as she watched Gray, who was sitting opposite her, gulp down ice. They sat in silence, calmed by the sound of rain pelting on top of the striped parasol. While she immensely did enjoy chatty Gray, Juvia equally loved moments like this when they could just be comfortable around each other's presence. It gave her time to take notice of a few changes in Gray. He seemed to have lost some weight. She asked if he was eating all right. He said he was but all the walking and fighting burned a few pounds off of him. Juvia promised to make him a bento when she sees him off tomorrow. She said it so casually as if preparing him lunch was expected of her. Gray smiled at that, just a sober slant of the lips, and told her he’d hold her to that promise. But quickly reminded her not to give it when Natsu’s around.
“I don’t want Flamebrain to steal it or somethin’.”
They fell in total but welcomed silence again, so they could listen to the faint sound of rain hitting the umbrella. It sounded like the rain was about to end soon. Lamentably, Gray and Juvia’s time might be ending soon too. Juvia let out another sigh, this time, a bit wistful.
“What’s wrong, Juvia?”
Gray’s face was contorted into worry.
“Nothing.” She pouted. “Juvia will just miss Gray-sama.”
Imagining the days she has to spend without the presence of Gray, Juvia couldn’t help but whine, slumping herself across the table at the sullen realization that Gray-sama will be so far away again. At the other end of the world even!
She snapped back up when warmth enclosed her hand. Her heart skipped a beat when she confirmed that it was Gray’s hand gently placed over hers. She stared at Gray, who returned the look with equal guilt and plea. His eyes, softened by his silent request, gave her an assurance that he wouldn’t be long. There was promise in them that whatever happens, he’ll find his way home – to her.
Juvia didn’t even have to hear him say it. She knew. She could see it in the way he softly looked into her eyes and gently squeezed her hand. Gray had conveyed his feelings through these simple gestures far better than his words ever could. And they reached Juvia, loud and clear.
I will be back.
Juvia will wait for you, Gray-sama.
Gray opened his mouth to say something but he quickly noticed the rain retreating. He withdrew from her gaze only to confirm this suspicion. Just like the way he tested the strength of the downpour earlier, Gray extended his free hand outside the roof of the umbrella. All the while, not loosening his hold on Juvia’s hand now enclosed in his.
Totally unnecessary but very much appreciated.
“Looks like it stopped raining.”
The realization widened both their eyes; a rapturous glimmer reflected in both. As if reading each other’s minds, Gray and Juvia cheered in unison, “Let’s try wave surfing!”
The hold on each other’s arm had become so permanent that wherever they went, none of them ever let go.
Even when the two of them were brought in at the police station for indecent exposure. Because Gray and Juvia were so excited to ride the waves, now that the sun had peaked through the clouds and the weather finally agreed with them, they both unconsciously stripped down and walked around in public in their intimates.
It didn’t come as a surprise for Gray since he’d been down the station on more than one occasion, all for the same reason. He was embarrassed though, for causing Juvia to spend the night in jail on their last night together.
“Juvia doesn’t mind, Gray-sama!”
The culprit for his current state – his face turning beet red – clung to him despite the warnings from the watch guard. The heat from, he wasn’t sure if it was because of getting in jail, their intimate position together inside the very small space, or maybe both, was making him nauseous.
What tipped the scale, though, was having Erza Scarlet march down the police station to bail them both out. And the Requip Mage did not look happy. In fact, she was so mad about having to wake up in the middle of her beauty rest and come down the station that she added another year to Gray’s ban from ever setting foot at Fairy Hills.
And for Juvia, to endure a year of curfew.
“As if it’s not punishment enough for Juvia not being able to see Gray-sama in the middle of the 100 year quest.” Juvia mumbled under her breath as she miserably followed Erza home.
“You were saying somethin’?”
Juvia was one of the strongest mages of one of the strongest guilds in Fiore. She was not afraid of anything, except for that murderous glint in Erza’s brown eyes that made her feel weak, small and breakable all at the same time.
“N-not-nothing, Erza-san.”
...
As promised, Juvia brought Gray a bento lunch she woke up so early to make. They met separately ahead of the others so that, as Gray requested, he could eat it in peace, away from the nosy fire dragon slayer who would have demanded a bite or two. They walked together to Team Natsu’s meeting point and Juvia wished them well on their journey to the Sabertooth guild. She sulked at Gray’s departure despite his assurances that he would be back, whatever it took. She suggested he give her a goodbye kiss so she wouldn’t miss him that much and aggravated the swordswoman for flirting too much in the open.
Juvia settled with just waving her beloved Gray goodbye, looking as their figures grew smaller and smaller by the distance. She didn’t know how long the quest would take her beloved away. But in those times that she missed him, in those hours that she’s alone and lonely, in those moments when her desire to see the ice-mage overwhelmed her, she had yesterday and today to think back to. This feeling today, the elated bliss lingering from having to spend the whole day with Gray, playing around and just having fun, without a care in the world.
In spite of the heavy rain.
Or maybe, because of it.
Gray not only took her rain away. Yesterday, he gave a whole different meaning to it.

Day Five: Temptation
Juvia was laying on the bed in the inn, blue hair splayed out around her. Her cheeks were flushed, her chest rose and fell in rapid succession from her shallow breathes, and those dark eyes were locked on Gray. He gulped, swallowing down a lump in his throat as he leaned over her precariously. He couldn’t move. He was frozen in time in that spot, watching every breath Juvia took. His heart hammered in his chest, and blood pounded in his ears.
Somehow, his fingers found hers and then they were intertwined. Juvia’s fingers long and slender, but smaller than his – softer too. They felt delicate in his calloused grasp. They had been close plenty of times in the past, but none felt like such a temptation. If he moved, if he breathed, if he said the wrong word, he feared it would shatter this perfect little bubble they had managed to find themselves in. It was a fine line they were walking – the cords pulled taut and ready to snap at a moment’s notice.
His Adam’s apple bobbed as Gray gulped again. The air tasted electric. The small room at the inn was deadly quiet, no outside noise could be heard. The only sounds that filled the room were their breathing and their heartbeats.
Juvia parted her pale lips and Gray sucked in a breath. He had never noticed how full her lips were before. He wanted to taste them. Would they taste as electric as the air did or like something uniquely Juvia? Her hand was warm wrapped in his, and his fingers twitched. He wanted to feel more of her. Would she turn away if he stroked her cheek with his free hand? The rosy blush on her face made his heart skip a beat.
Had Juvia always been this beautiful? It was a silly question; of course she had. Despite the several changes she had made to her appearance in the time that he had known her, it never once changed who she was as a person. She had always been beautiful. She had always been breathtaking. Even when she was shrouded in rainclouds, there was something about her that filled him with sunshine, despite his efforts to ignore the feeling.
Juvia was water – vital. Gray needed her. He couldn’t process the thought of a life without her. His life was a desert without Juvia. She was his oasis. He would die of dehydration if he didn’t drink her. Gray’s mouth felt dry – parched. He wet his lips, tasted electricity on his tongue, and filled his lungs with air as he breathed in Juvia’s sweet scent. He tried to speak, but his voice cracked. The words were lost on his tongue.
“Kiss me?” Juvia managed, breaking the dangerous silence that stretched between them.
Never had two words sounded more tempting. Gray nodded slowly, then finally leaned in. His lips brushed against hers, hesitant, before their mouths slotted together and he could no longer control himself.

Gruvia fanfiction: hurt/comfort, sad and a little bit of fluff by the end.
Warning: mention of self-harm, depression, anxiety, bullying, and blood.
Original posted in AO3
____________________________________________
Juvia was never one to indulge herself into someone's personal business, unless she was asked for.
She was private herself, and she never wanted to ask for help or advice concerning her anxiety disorder, even if she deeply wanted to seek their comfort, but this isn't about Juvia.
it was about her only lover, her sweet man, and compassionate boyfriend.
Through out their intimacy and romantic relationship-which was still developing- they always tried to share their problems, their insecurities, it has been difficult for both, especially for a person like Gray, always wearing a ghost-like shield to separate his friends from his life.
Juvia could say the same thing about herself, mostly because she doesn't want to bother people.
But they went through this, they discussed about it and how they'll try to lean on each other when it gets too hard, and so far they have been showing a little bit of vulnerability.
At least that's what Juvia thought.
It was a late afternoon, Juvia was finally done with her classes and ready to join her friends in the FT salon room, and end the evening with a nap, she can feel a headache coming to upturn her night.
She wanted to take the stairs rather than the elevator, to get her legs pumping after sitting in the hard wooden chairs in her class, it makes her legs numb and uncomfortable, And once she was about to take the next stairs, she heard murmuring, two people were conversing in hushed tones. it didn't take her too long to realize who thery were.
Gray and Erza, of course no one can miss her orotund voice.
Juvia knows they were having a private conversation, something she shouldn't be listening to, but she couldn't budge from her crouching position ( how did she get to crouch in the first place?).
She wasn't jealous, she is very much confident about that, because she knows better than be jealous of Erza, and despite her overriding imagination and her traumatic past that deprived her from having any trust towards her new friends, she believed that Erza is better than a cheating friend. moreover, she wouldn't do this to Jellal, or Gray or to her.
But Juvia had a feeling that this might be something she had to hear, even if she'll feel guilty after it.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Erza asked, rarely does Juvia get to hear worry laced in her voice.
"Yeah" Gray replied, although it took him a brief moment to do so. Matter of fact, she noticed how tired he got in the last few days, but she didn't worry too much about it, she assumed it might be university loads of assignments.
"You know you can talk to me about anything" she assured the boy, a weird sense of worrisome began to crawl over Juvia; why is she pushing him to speak up? must there be some history that Gray didn't bother to mention to her?
"I am alright Erza... trust me" he responded.
there was quietness for a moment, Juvia urged to take a little peak from where she is hiding but she doesn't want to risk being founded, it will cause problems and Gray might even be disgusted and break up with her and all her friends will find her weird and leave her alone like before-
her exaggerated overthinking stopped abruptly when she heard the rustling of fabrics.
she carefully leaned to see that Erza was rubbing his arm in comfort. It was all peculiar to her.... well maybe not new but unusual, especially to Gray, she isn't that affectionate compared to Natsu and Lucy.
Well, if Juvia were to be general, the Red haired woman was never this gentle with anyone but she has her motherly moments.
so this was very surprising for Juvia, and it made the worrying pit in her stomach stronger.
"If ... you have the idea of doin-"
" I am not going to do it" he retorted, in a rather sharp manner, he sighed after a moment.
"I swear it's nothing like that... I'm just tired" he added, less bothered than before.
"Alright... let me know when you need me, okay?" gripping his shoulder gently, Juvia could see the nod of her boyfriend; he agreed.
once they started to move, Juvia panicked for a second, if they do find her here she'll throw a bunch of stuttering words thus making her look like an idiot and ending her perfect romance.
but instead, they both agreed to take the elevator down to the common room ( which made her remember to go there as soon as she undress from her outfit), fortunately for her, she doesn't have to stand in an awkward anxiety inducing situation.
Once she heard their voices disappearing and the sound of the elevator, she slowly left her hiding place and ran upstairs to her dorm floor, all while her brain is racking through what she had heard.
Gray is hiding something from her and he doesn't want to tell her. That's one thing she is confident about.
But what she doesn't know is the content, what he is going through, is it bigger problem than she can imagine? She has never seen Erza that worried and particulary towards Gray.
it says a lot.
the loud chattering of her friends didn't distract her from her circling thoughts about Gray, he was sitting next her, their knees touching while arguing with Lucy about whatever topic that Juvia didn't bother to listen to.
She doesn't know if she should ask him about it, she feels like she might be pushing him into a corner and making him pour out his stress out and that's not something Gray is found of, she knew that by experience and she doesn't want to make the same mistake.
However, she is scared, what if ... it's a huge thing that concerns his life? She knows that Gray tasted that empty sense of life once when he was young, he told her that and Juvia cried by the end which made Gray nervous.
And what if Gray isn't happy? what if he doesn't want to ... go on anymore? she can't always trust his pretty smile, she can't be reassured by that even if she knows him by the back of her hand.
"Juvia?" her beloved's sexy! voice called out to her, while nudging her knee with his slightly. She snapped out of her haze, and looked at him.
he didn't look all worried but the usual frown on his face slightly changed, something that meant that he was observing her silent demeanor.
once she immediately set her eyes on his beautiful handsome face, she fought against the overthinking of hers. Gray would do that no more, not after what he told her; the fact that she was here with him and breathing with him was enough for him to continue living (his words not hers).
so maybe Juvia is overthinking it.
"what are you thinking about?" , he asked.
she blinked, feeling nervous after she got caught dazing in front of her friends, although she couldn't see Lucy in her spot anymore.
"it's nothing, just some assignments to do" she chuckled to hide the nervousness from her voice, but she knows that she failed just by forcing that small laugh from her lips.
Gray kept looking at her, an invitation to vent about whatever is eating her up, but Juvia doesn't know how she can bring forth a subject that concerns him, plus how can she tell him that she was eavesdropping into a private conversation?
.... it's not like she followed them, it was a coincidence.
However, if she stores this worry to herself, it will haunt her tonight, and she has an assignment test tomorrow, she can't afford to go without sleep in her system (not like she never done that before).
Maybe stating it at first won't make it a problem.
"well... I heard something today" she began, fiddling with her fingers in her lap.
Gray leaned on his arms, his elbows on top of his knees, she felt a little bit comfortable talking with the fond gaze that he is wearing in his face.
"I accidentally heard you and Erza talk about something today, in the staircase.." she told him, not daring to look at his eyes.
"Juvia didn't mean to first of all, but based on the conversation, Juvia is feeling a little bit worried about you..."
she finally glanced at him and she felt the anxiety pile up in her stomach.
Gray's face was... conflicting, like he was scared but he is masking it with anger.
" you were eavesdropping? what the hell Juvia-"
"Juvia wasn't! I was taking the stairs!"
"you never take the stairs!"
"i do when I want to walk!" Juvia never wanted to raise her voice at her beloved, but the way he is taking the conversation was ... nerving, as if he is accusing her of discovering a secret door that holds his deepest scars.
he got up from the coach, ready to leave the conversation, running away from it.
"My love, Juvia was just asking!" Juvia tried to follow after him.
"don't ask questions I won't answer Juvia!" he looked back, harsh expression covering the fear in his eyes.
Juvia gathered a moment to breath in, she doesn't want her anger to control her emotion, but it made her feel so unfair, it was so unfair that she got to share her deepest scars, her trauma, her fear, her joy, her sadness.
and he offered her everything, so why is he pushing her away?
" what is it that you are hiding from me?" she asked quietly.
" I don't need to tell you"
"that's so unfair!" she yelled, her fists clenched from her sides, and she finally blurted it out, in she failed on keep her emotions controlled.
she can see her friends coming through the entrance door, concerned over the raised voices. It is actually way more concerning when it's the rarest couples who fight.
Gray looked taken back by Juvia's tone. She rarely does that to anyone, but if she did it towards him, it indicates that there's something bigger.
"i always reach out to you, even when I am afraid" she continued, she felt her face heat up like a furnace.
" so what are you afraid of?"
the question triggered something in Gray. She can see his usual frown vanish from his face, and for a moment she saw him scared, as if she caught a glimpse over his past self.
but Gray clenched his jaw and turned around to leave, Cana and Lucy didn't try to reach out to him, they just let him leave with their mouth agape from what they've witnessed.
Juvia felt the frustration hitting her at once, clenching her hair tightly, she can sense the painful clutch.
she fell back into the couch, huffing in disappointment.
It turns out asking him was a problem.
Gray is hating himself, no matter how much he blasts the music into his ears, it couldn't block the loud noises in his head.
he admits that this was the worst fight he ever had with Juvia, everything was sudden to him, like a slap to his face, Juvia never yelled at him with anger, actually, she never yelled at anyone before.
but it's his fault anyways, he was defensive because he was a coward, who didn't want to show his scars to her. how could he? Juvia was a gentle soul although she always tries to deny it with her past "Shameful acts" of whatever, but everyone has their own piece of tainted wrongdoings.
Gray doesn't care if she killed someone before, she is still that blinding sunlight that engulfs his cold chest with warmth.
and he is afraid that if he pulls up his sweater and shows what he did to his wrists will make her see him in a different way, whether with disgust, fear, or pity.
he had seen those people before. he met them, and he was friends with them before they stripped him from his secret self-harming and pulled down their masks to reveal their true colors.
pity, disgust, fear...
if only Erza hadn't stopped him in the staircase, if only she wasn't so frightened-
Gray sighed, he pulled his headphones away from his ears.
no he thought, here's no one else to blame but me.
come to think of it, Erza had the right to ask him about his wellbeing, he kind of found it hard to keep on the same damned routine of university, and on top of that the unnecessary load of assignments he has to do, it makes him anxious just the thought of them.
but it doesn't matter now, he had another problem to fix...
Gray was never a fan of communication, and after today? he can sure label himself as the worst at communication, he shouldn't have yelled at her, he shouldn't have looked at her that way, she deserves better.
maybe if he could just end it.
"when you face a problem with someone you love, you harvest your self-hater and think that people deserve much better than you do, and then you end everything."
she heard him coming closer to her place, where she is swinging her legs from the rooftop. She would have been terrified if there wasn't another rooftop built right under it, so the fear of breaking a leg or two from a fall is impossible to happen.
she felt a heavy weight over her body, warmth embraced her as she slowly tugged the coat with her fingers, although she wasn't feeling the cold.
she saw from the corner of her eye,Gray shifting his position over the railing of the roof, leaving his legs dangling similarly as hers. she didn't have the courage to look at his face again, which made her frustrated to death, because the silence hanging between them was driving her mad.
should she say something? should she start by apologizing? she could if the heavy lump didn't pressure her from forming words.
"I'm sorry", she heard him say, oh so softly that made her heart hammer with speed.
why should he apologize when she started this whole mess? she opened her lips to argue against who's fault it was, but he beat her into it, " I didn't mean to yell at you"
Juvia finally turned her head to look at him, he was avoiding her eyes and instead looking blowing them, his black messy hair was moved by the wind of the season, and it made him look so ethereal.
she shook her head instead and looked below them as well. She noticed a small creature-probably a squirell- settling himself in one of the tree branches, enjoying his treat.
"Juvia is the one who is sorry, I shouldn't have listened to your conversation.."
" I could have just explained what you heard instead", this time their eyes locked at each other, she feels the heavy awkward air began to shift away alongside the wind.
she would be lying if she said that she wasn't curious about their conversation because she knows that if they don't discuss it right now she will be left with a sleepless night, yet she doesn't want to push him into pouring down his scars if he doesn't want to.
"Juvia doesn't want to pressure you-"
"I want to."
he interrupted her, and Juvia doesn't have a choice but to listen and give in into her curiosity impulse.
Gray took a breath, and Juvia felt the nervousness seeping from him, so she hesitantly offered her hand towards him, she doesn't know if he is comfortable about it or not, so an offering is better than a bold move, like she usually does.
He looked surprisingly at her hand and smiled slightly, grabbing her hand while interlocking their fingers together, "you usually just hold it, why are you being polite?" he said, pointing out the fact that she is impolite when it comes to showing her affection towards him.
Juvia snort:" for now I'll be polite "
she grasped his hand for reassurance, and smiled at him.
"well.." he began, "since you know that I didn't enjoy my life in Korea, and that I had to work a lot and study everyday like some slave, and why my mental health was dropping all the way down" , he stopped for a moment, breathing in through his nose, and exhaling; and Juvia waited patiently, she could even wait for ages she won't mind.
"I used something so I won't try and kill myself"
Juvia's worrying pit started expanding, making her whole body tense with the thoughts running over her head about her beloved hurting himself.
" I used to self-harm."
the blue-haired girl remembers the feeling of being absorbed by fear, how her whole body freezes whenever she encounters a crowd, how the fright will make her shiver non-stop and her mind draws blank. She is familiar with this.
but she never felt fear choking her being like right now.
self-harm.
just the thought of seeing her lover sinking those sharp razors to his wrist so he wouldn't try suicide as an option, she felt like crying.
Gray broke the eye contact between each other, realizing how much of a shock that might have been to her, she can sense how tightly he is holding her hand right now, as if she would run away from him any moment.
"i am sorry" he apologized, he looked dejected, and Juvia could maybe see a glimpse of his old self.
but why is he apologizing? does he think that she'll run away out of disgust from what he suffered? does he think that Juvia would leave him because he had other means to keep himself from dying?
"Do you think that Juvia will leave you?" Gray didn't glance at her, so she grabbed his chin with her hand, turning his head to look at his grey eyes, they were red, ready to brim with tears. "This isn't your fault, and ju via wouldn't even think of leaving your side after opening up to me."
she can feel the tone of her voice quiver, but she held it because her sweet lover man is the one who has the right to tear about it, not her, no matter how much she wants to.
"you are very brave my love." she said softly, cradling his cheek, which were cold under her hand. she knows that he won't believe it, not now at least, it might need time for him to realize how courageous and strong he is, she is aware that he went through this all alone.
"i am not going to leave you alone, Juvia promises on her life."
the lid broke and everything in it scattered out.
Gray cried silently, and Juvia brought his head into her chest, to cradle him from all the pain and the danger of the world, she can sense her own tears ready to fall like a rain shower.
they held each other tightly under the glimmer of the stars and the dark sky, while the whistles of the wind gave them a bittersweet shiver, but all they could feel was each other's warmth.
Gray wants to not give in into his self-blame tendency, and while it's hard, opening up to Juvia made him feel that something clicked, like a puzzle joining to fill a whole picture.
Juvia completes him.
and so they cried, their fingers still locked together and the time passed not knowing for how long they were in each other's embrace. and nobody broke their heartfelt moment.

Natsu Harem: Fairy GET! 4/14
Let's see... Pink, brown, white.... We'll go with blue. Yes, blue. (人◕ω◕)
Juvia will be the next here. (人◕ω◕)
When did they meet?
During the Tower of Heaven incident. (人◕ω◕) Admittedly, Juvia's "love at first sight" thing with Gray is... Well, it happened. Even with this series having fanfiction in its veins, I won't pretend the crush never existed. I already acknowledged Chelia's crush on Lyon, and Cana's dabbled around with men... Might as well touch on Juvia's obsession with Gray. I am no coward. I will overcome this hiccup with relative ease~... Not that Gray doesn't deserve a girl. ... I'm just not crazy about Gruvia. Navia is much more interesting. Fite me. (人◕ω◕)
So, Juvia goes and helps Team Natsu infiltrate the Tower of Heaven to save Erza. (人◕ω◕) She's jealous of Lucy's bond with Gray, so she makes her air bubble smaller out of spite. They all manage to make it into the Tower, so no harm no foul~...
To be perfectly honest, however, Juvia and Natsu interactions are fleeting in canon. So I'll skip the long-winded review of canon events and just give a bare-bones look back at it. Even if Juvia's whole shtick is supporting and orbiting around Gray, the fact remains that she does help Team Natsu and Fairy Tail as a whole... Even joins the guild. (人◕ω◕)
When did they grow closer?
This is a million yen question, folks. While there's a ton of flexibility and options, strictly going by canon Juvia would never give Natsu the time of day. Good thing I was never a canon purist. (人◕ω◕)
Juvia's thing is Gray, yeah? So it follows if she wants to be as close to him as possible, she'd hafta join Team Natsu. Cuz for better or for worse, Gray is nice and cozy on a team with his hotheaded rival, Lucy, Erza, Happy, and eventually Wendy and Carla. (人◕ω◕) That said... If Juvia does join up, I can see Erza wanting to attempt some team bonding exercises to get to know one another better~... This means not just bonding as a group, but in two- to three-person units. This means sooner or later, Juvia will have to team up with Natsu and be properly introduced.
... Do not be fooled, however. (❋•‿•❋) Juvia is a stubborn, faithful woman. Bonding with Natsu is her least favorite ways to pass the time... He's loud, has no manners, always picks fights... Oh yeah. And he always beats up her Darling. (❋•‿•❋) You can be sure that in their early interactions, Juvia-chan attempted to order Natsu to stop picking fights with Gray, if only so that her Beloved could better spend his time.
It doesn't work out, of course. Natsu's just as much of a free spirit as Juvia is. And moreover... Natsu and Gray both confirm for Juvia that they get plenty out of butting heads with each other; in their own quirky way, they're making sure the other isn't slacking off, and constantly measuring their strength against one another. (❋•‿•❋) Juvia might not like it... But it is what it is.
So once the initial cold shoulder phase is over and Juvia does some jobs with Natsu, she begins to see his caring spirit. Whether it's her, Happy, a client, or someone else being threatened... Natsu gives it his all to defend them. While Juvia finds it admirable, she does still think Gray is leagues above Natsu. And really, she's besties with Gajeel. She knows Dragon Slayers are strong and have big hearts. She knows that. ... They just don't appeal to her on a romantic level. (❋•‿•❋)
Here's something a little interesting, though. (❋•‿•❋) Lisanna befriended the Edolas Juvia. So when the S-Class trials come up, she volunteers to be Juvia's partner, even though Juvia is severely down in the dumps about being a rival to her Beloved. She doesn't mind Lisanna's companionship, Juvia's just got Gray on her mind. Always. (❋•‿•❋)
But the Lisanna connection really is a possible way in for Natsu. An additional way for him and Juvia to be connected. After the trials and the seven year gap, Juvia does grow closer to Lisanna, and consequentially she and Natsu get more time together little by little. (❋•‿•❋) The Navia ship is often a slowburn, folks. Natsu isn't romantically attracted to Juvia, not for a long while, and you know Juvia is a faithful woman. And you know Lisanna won't be telling Juvia to jump ship, no, no. Lisanna-chan can be a bit... greedy like her neesan. (❋•‿•❋)
Still, the Grand Magic Games goes to show Juvia that Natsu is remaining as tough as ever. Which is good for her Darling, cuz Gray needs a strong rival. (❋•‿•❋) Juvia also enjoys participating in the games...even if for the first while she was technically a rival to her Beloved. Again. But then final day of the games came up, and Juvia replaced Natsu's spot so he could go save Lucy. Then she was a teammate with Gray-sama. (❋•‿•❋)
After the games and the stuff with the dragons... Juvia-chan thinks Natsu has earned a reward for helping give her time with Gray-sama, not to mention the destruction of the Eclipse Gate. (๑╹ω╹๑ ) They're just friends, but Juvia has come to accept time with Natsu is not time wasted anymore. She winds up knitting Natsu a new scarf... Not that Natsu is willing to accept the thing, cuz the scarf he got from Igneel is more precious to him.
... This depresses Juvia a lot, considering she put a lot of thought into her gift to Natsu... On top of being rejected by Gray constantly, it's like being turned down in stereo with Natsu joining in. Natsu picks up on this, and resolves to cheer Juvia up despite not understanding what's wrong. After Mira walks him through the problem - to which he only half-listened, half-understood - Natsu decides to get Wendy's help in enchanting the scarf to have some of his Magic. He'll hafta "recharge" the scarf every now and then, every few months, but he gives the scarf back to Juvia and she's amazed at how toasty it feels. (๑╹ω╹๑ ) At first she thought Natsu was just throwing it back at her, but once he explained what he and Wendy did... Juvia's touched at Natsu's thoughtfulness. ... Even if she still hasn't given him a proper gift yet. Juvia feels bad about that. But. Natsu-kun isn't a complete blockhead of a friend, and Juvia will take this as a win. (๑╹ω╹๑ )
Do we even need to go over Juvia and Meredy? (๑╹ω╹๑ )
... (๑╹ω╹๑ );;;
When does friendship turn to something more?
After Tartaros, Juvia can't think of anything except how she hurt Gray by helping "kill" his dad... She doesn't even know or think about Igneel dying... So whereas Natsu's off cavorting with the Strauss Siblings during the year hiatus, Juvia's with Gray-sama. (๑╹ω╹๑ )
... It's not exactly everything Juvia wanted, despite how she puffs it up as all that. (๑╹ω╹๑ );;; Natsu's Magic ran out months ago in the scarf, and Juvia has felt... empty without it. Plus, even with Gray treating her as a good friend, he still edges away from romance. Naturally this bums Juvia out. And when Natsu sees the scarf and just charges it up for Juvia without being prompted... That sticks in Juvia's mind. (๑╹ω╹๑ )
She's there when Fairy Tail's all reunited. And Juvia goes with Team Natsu to save Makarov from the Alvarez Empire. The subsequent war brought to Ishgar is... overwhelming. A lot happened. There's several points Juvia isn't sure how they'll make it through the day.... But they do.
And in spite of everything that's happened... Gray still turns her down for a relationship. Of course he was overly apologetic about nearly killing her, and Juvia is a precious friend to him... But Gray can't force something that isn't there. He carried his dad's wish to hunt down END and kill him for the past year, and now he's just not sure what he's gonna do from now on. Sticking with Fairy Tail and Team Natsu is obvious, protecting his friends is "no duh", but he just... His head's not in the right place for a relationship. He needs time to unwind and figure out his own personal goals in life.
Not that this more decisive rejection doesn't rattle Juvia to her core... She keeps insisting she'll wait for Gray, but her insistence only makes Gray all the more resolved to keep his answer as "no"; cuz in his mind, Juvia deserves better after the mistakes he's made. And she shouldn't put her whole love life on hold, let alone dedicate herself to someone that just may never reciprocate...
That's when Gray decides to get Natsu, Lisanna, and Meredy's help on this one. They're all friends with Juvia, and if anyone could get Juvia off this tunnel vision thing, it'd be them... It's not easy. Juvia is tenacious, committed, and really, does anyone like admitting it's over when it's over...?
After some prodding from Lisanna and Meldy, Natsu takes Juvia out for dinner. He even gets dressed up with the girls' help, and go to a nice restaurant. Sure, it's not this perfect outing that Juvia envisioned, and she's even more devastated when she perceives Lisanna and Meldy's intentions to get her to try a date with Natsu...
But at the end of the day, Juvia only realized the outing was a "date" after it was nearing its end. Despite the high class restaurant, going to a nighttime festival, doing whatever Juvia was up for... Juvia just took it all as Natsu trying to cheer her up. When she realized it was a date, Juvia was certainly revolted at first, that she enjoyed herself with someone other than Gray-sama...
... But after all this time with Natsu, Juvia knows he never meant any ill will. Natsu knows her feelings for Gray are strong, and he's not trying to erase them out of spite. He's helping out because even the Stripper is concerned for Juvia, that Lisanna and Meldy are worried for her, and they all just want Juvia to be happy.
It's still a bitter pill to swallow, to just give up on Gray after all this time... But Natsu-kun has always been there, as have Lisanna and Meldy. They've been great friends... And Juvia supposes she can learn to love Natsu more "properly". (๑╹ω╹๑ ) For Natsu's part... He never has to complain about Juvia being "fired up" for jobs or much of anything. Their mutual passion for life bounces off each other quite nicely~... Yes. This couple has all the good vibes. \(๑╹ω╹๑ )/

Gruvia Week Day 1: Reflections ⋆꙳•̩̩͙❅*̩̩͙‧͙ ‧͙*̩̩͙❆ ͙͛ ˚₊⋆
Summary: Before Juvia knew it, she was in one of the private rooms of the church, getting one last good look at herself before it was time to begin her walk. She was never particularly happy with the girl who stared back at her. Still, today the mirror reflected an empty image, almost as if Juvia was never there, to begin with.

Dance The Night Away
Happy Gruvia Day 2020! 💓
This fic is dedicated to my favorite couple on their special day! I got inspired by these matching Gruvia covers so i had to get to work and start writing 🥰
Preparing himself for the evening, Gray stood by the mirror, making finishing touches to his outfit, he adjusted his black bow tie so it wouldn’t be oblique.
Tonight was not going to be like any other for Fairy Tail, no. Because in honor of Queen Hisui’s birthday, she was hosting a ball at the royal palace in Crocus and Fairy Tail had gotten an invitation as her majesty’s honorable guests.
Gray was never really a big fan of big and fancy parties, but he guessed it wasn’t too bad to appear on special occasions only. At least he got to see and spend more time with a particular water mage.
The sudden thought of Juvia made Gray’s cheeks flush red, redder than Erza’s scarlet hair. He started thinking about things like what she would wear tonight. A beautiful smile, that was Gray certain of. Once the blunette was on his mind, he was doomed and could not stop thinking about her. Oh who was he kidding, it was game over for him from the beginning. Because she always appeared on his mind. Especially after the day she almost… Gray lightly slapped himself on the cheeks to shake the awful memory from his thoughts. No sad thoughts tonight!
When Gray was all dressed up in his big boy fancy pantsy clothes and ready to go, he headed downstairs to the hotel lobby to wait for his guild mates. After a few minutes of waiting, that seemed like hours for Gray, all the mages of Fairy Tail had gathered but when everyone started walking outside Gray noticed someone was missing. Someone really important.
‘’Hey Natsu, have you seen Juvia?’’ Gray asked his best friend, his eyes searching for the brunette in the room. He wasn't aware of the smirk that appeared on Natsu’s lips after getting the question.
‘’Oh, Lucy and Juvia weren’t ready yet, so they let me know that they will join us later’’ Natsu shrugged. ‘’Girls am I right?’’’’ He shook his head, not understanding why girls always took so long to get ready.
Gray let out a sigh. If he was completely honest, he couldn’t help but be a little upset about that. Of course he knew, they would see each other eventually but somehow… he just didn’t want to wait.
He looked back one last time but when she still hadn’t shown up, he caught up with Natsu and his other guild mates.
___
At the palace, Gray was bored. He had already tried anything and everything to get to get the time pass and for her to arrive faster but it didn’t help at all, so of course he had gotten very impatient. Where the hell was his woman?
‘’Lucy!’’ Gray heard Natsu call the celestial mage’s name.
Lucy? Then that had to mean…
Gray had never turned around so fast in his life. And at that moment, when Gray saw her, he swore he forgot how to breathe. And who else had that effect on him, except for one person?
There stood Juvia, on top of the imperial staircase, in a long light blue butterfly embellished ballgown with a plunging neckline which revealed her big but beautiful breasts. She really looked like an angel sent from the heaven’s so she was most certainly forgiven for keeping him waiting all this time.
Gray was so taken aback by Juvia’s beauty that it took him a few moments to realize that their eyes were glued to each other. They might not have stood close to each other, but Gray could clearly see her big smile she gave him. She had the most beautiful smile and she could light up the whole world with it. Most important, she lit up his world.
When Juvia had walked down the stairs and reached the floor, Gray was confused as to why she broke eye contact and didn’t walk up to him. Did he do something? Did he hurt her? Did she hate him? Was she no longer in love with him? Had she already given up on him?
All these bad thoughts started to pop up in his mind and they scared the crap out of him. He was supposed to get stronger for her so he could always protect her and be by her side. Was he really too late?
___
An hour had passed and Gray was getting really worried at this point. To think his Juvia hadn’t talked to her Gray-Sama even after that long, was so not like her at all and he hated it. But what about him? Why couldn’t he be the one to do it for once? Thank goodness that Erza approach him and interrupted Gray from his crazy thoughts.
‘’Gray’’
‘’I didn’t do anything!’’ Gray jumped, obviously scared because he thought Erza was going to give him a piece of her mind for whatever he had done.
‘’Go talk to her’’
‘’H-huh?!’’
‘’Juvia. Go talk to her’’
‘’W-what are you saying-’’
‘’Now’’ And with that, she was already gone and joined Jellal on the dance floor.
It wasn’t much but somehow those very few words she had said to him had given him a big confident boost. He didn’t know why nor how but it was like suddenly, his whole body was filled with courage. Plus it was Erza so there was no way he would disobey her or else he knew, she would have his head.
Gray looked outside, towards the sakura garden and he found Juvia standing there all by herself. He was going to make her company and he was going to do it now.
He took a deep breath before making his way up to her.
‘’Hey’’
The water mage turned around and looked a bit surprised by his sudden appearance.
‘’Oh, Good evening, Gray-Sama!’’ She replied with a soft smile and went back to looking at the the sakura trees with a admiration. After a little silence Juvia spoke again.
‘’The sakura trees weren’t here the last time we were here. Aren’t they beautiful?’’
‘’Yeah… you are’’ That had taken him all the courage that was inside him but he really meant it so he didn’t regret saying it. He wanted her to know. He wanted her to know everything.
‘’Gray-Sama?’’ She looked at him as a question mark like she didn’t understand what he had just said.
‘’Juvia. I said you’re beautiful’’ He said again, reassuring her that she had indeed heard him correctly. But he couldn’t look straight into her big ocean orbs that time. ‘’So I was wondering if maybe… you would like to have this dance?’’ He extended his hand out for her to accept, his other hand was on the back of his head. But when she didn’t respond as fast as Gray thought and hoped she would, he had to look at her to see if everything was okay.
All of a sudden, sakura petals were falling from the trees, making Juvia’s cheeks match them. Holding her hands up to her chest, Juvia's face lit up. Looked like Gray didn’t have to worry, after all.
‘’Juvia thought you’d never ask, Gray-Sama’’ She let out a little giggle as she accepted his hand, as he then placed a small peck on the back of it and led her to the dance floor.
When they reached the dance floor, Juvia put her hand on Gray’s shoulder and Gray put his on her waist. Their other hand were still holding each other, not letting go. They started swinging slowly, following the playing music, from the royal orchestra.
They stayed in silence, no one saying a word but their eyes never left each other so it really made up for the none small talk. After the song ended Gray didn’t expect for Juvia let go of him so soon. She looked at him and made a small curtsy.
‘’Thank you so much for dancing with me, Gray-Sama’’ She thanked him and started exiting the dance floor but she didn't get far until she felt a pair of strong arms around her.
‘’G-Gray-Sama?!’’
‘’Just…just a little longer’’ He had her in a tight, yet gentle embrace and he was not planning on letting her go.
‘’Juvia is so happy, Gray-Sama’’ She said as she hugged him back lovingly.
‘’Me too’’
A little longer turned out to be the whole night.

Happy Gruvia Day !
I’m sorry for the mistakes, English is not my native language. I hope you like it.
Summary : Gray headed for Greige's bedroom. He half-opened the door and looked inside. The bed was empty. He knew where he could find him.
Disclaimer : Fairy Tail belongs to Hiro Mashima.
AO3 / FF.NET
Gray went out the station building and headed for his house. Night had fallen for several hours. He would have liked to arrive earlier, but the train had been delayed during a stop at a station.
He had just returned from a mission that had lasted two days. Usually, he tried not to stay far from Magnolia and not leave for more than a day. But the client had explicitly asked for him, and Juvia had convinced him to agree, assuring him that everything would be fine while he was gone. But he could not wait to get home.
He arrived in front of his house and entered. The whole house was quiet. That was to be expected, given the time it was. He took off his shoes and headed for Greige's bedroom. He half-opened the door and looked inside. The bed was empty. Gray knew where he could find him. He closed the door and headed for his bedroom. He saw Greige, asleep in the bed and snuggled up to Juvia's arms. The storybook she was reading to him was on the bed and still open to the page she had left off. Gray smiled as he looked at his wife and son. He never thought that one day he would be so happy. Greige and Juvia were his whole life and he would do anything for them.
He put his bag on the floor, approached the bed without making a sound and took the book. He put it on the bedside table, being careful not to wake them up. He went to the bathroom to get ready and went to bed. He lay down slowly, but Greige turned to look at him and said in a sleepy voice :
“Dad, you're home.”
“Yes, I'm home,” Gray whispered. “You go back to sleep.”
Greige went back to sleep, this time he snuggled up to his father. Gray put his arm around Greige and Juvia and hugged them. He ended up falling asleep, knowing that he was finally home, with the people he loved.
The end

Day Seven: Contentment
Juvia stood in front of the floor-length mirror fiddling with the sash on her dress that wrapped around her waist. The small room inside of Kardia Cathedral had been decorated with light blue flowers and white gossamer tule. There was a congratulatory gift basket from the church in the corner, along with empty champagne glasses on the side table by a couple of lounge chairs. Juvia was alone in the room now, after having been surrounded by high-spirited guild mates.
Her nerves were catching up to her, but this was the moment she had waited for her entire life. Excitement bubbled within her like the carbonation from the champagne she had drank earlier. She was elated. In a matter of moments, she would walk out of the room and toward the sanctuary where her darling Gray awaited her arrival. As much as she had dreamed of this moment, Juvia never believed this day would come. Gray had pushed her away so many times. Despite her resilience to give up, even she knew that at some point, she would have to accept the truth.
Fortunately, that day never came. When Gray finally told her that he loved her, and then later proposed, it was like every insecurity she had ever felt in her entire life was washed away in a passing rainstorm. She felt content. Her life was going somewhere, and Juvia was happy to be along for the ride. Nothing could take that happiness away from her. She would dig her nails in deep and hang on like her life depended on it. It sort of did. Gray was her life, and now she would be his.
Juvia took a deep breath to calm her nerves. She smoothed her hands down the length of her dress, and fiddled with a loose lock of hair, tucking it neatly back in place. Her long blue hair was tied up into a neat bun with curled tendrils hanging from it. There was a small tiara in her hair with a veil attached. It was folded up, out of her face, and she carefully pulled it down. This was it.
She turned toward the door and grabbed the knob, lingering in the room for a moment longer. Soon, she would no longer be Juvia Lockser, but Juvia Fullbuster. Juvia parted her lips into a small smile, suppressing the urge to cry at the thought. It really was everything she had ever hoped for. From the moment she met Gray and her “rain woman” persona faded away; she knew he was the one. He was the first person to see her for who she truly was, and she loved him for that. Juvia loved him with her whole being.
She opened the door and took a shaky step into the hallway – her final steps as an unmarried woman. Her heels echoed on the tile flooring, and soft music drifted toward her from the sanctuary at the end of the hall. Through those doors her friends and family waited for her, but most of all, Gray waited for her.

Gruvia Week 2022: Day 5 – Unwavering
Summary: He breaks for the unwavering love Juvia gives him, the only love that stayed and came back. He breaks because he did not lose her. He breaks for the eyes that stare back at him with pure love and wonder; for the girl whose hands held him steady and supported him along the way; for a smile that instantly makes everything right in his world.
[Set after Alvarez arc.]
Pairing: Gray Fullbuster & Juvia Lockser [Gruvia]
Genre: Hurt/Comfort, Angst/Romance
Word Count: 2,213
A/N: Reviews are appreciated!
When Juvia woke from her sleep, it's to Gray staring at her with an undecipherable gaze.
She has been in her guild's clinic resting. Porlyusica and Wendy made her stay so they can further monitor her condition, in case anything happens. She stabbed herself after all. And as if that wasn't enough, she used her magic to perform blood transfusion while she was bleeding herself out.
Hence, the clinic.
Gray has been visiting her nonstop all the time she's there. Not much words were said on the first two days of her stay there and frankly, it was making her nervous. She didn't know if there was something wrong that she did for gray to look at her like...
Like how he's looking at her now.
This streak of almost silent treatment seemed to end now though, as Gray cleared his throat, with arms folded, while he sat on a chair beside Juvia's bed.
"You almost died," he said with a stern voice.
At this, Juvia was confused. She didn't know where it was going.
"Y–yeah?" she said, unsure.
She quickly added, "Oh! But Juvia didn't, since Wendy saved her. It's a real relief she was able to."
"Understatement of the fucking year," commented Gray.
She stayed silent with that comment, and looked at her fiddling hands that was playing with the hem of the blanket.
She really didn't know what to say. As much as she has an idea of why Gray was acting like this based on the earlier conversation, she's still not sure how to approach it and how to talk to Gray about it.
"I don't understand why you even thought of doing it," Gray said through gritted teeth. "It doesn't make any sense."
Juvia frowned, "Gray-sama did the same thing, how does it not make sense?"
"That's different!" he exclaimed, making Juvia jump a little bit. "You don't get to do that Juvia! I don't need for you to do something like that!"
"Gray-sama, you're not making sense. We had no choice, we needed to break free. One of us needed to break free, otherwise one of us would've been killed by the other—" she tried to explain calmly. "—and we both know we wouldn't want for that to happen. Juvia did what she did to save you!"
"That's the thing! I don't need saving Juvia! I don't ever want you to throw away your life to save me!" shouted Gray, standing from his seat.
"But it's okay if it's Gray-sama who does it?" she said with pain and confusion laced in her small voice.
At this, Gray stayed quiet while he looks at the girl in front of him whose tears were forming at her eyes.
Something in Juvia broke.
A few minutes passed before one of them started talking again.
It was Juvia.
"Sometimes, I wonder if you truly understand how much you mean to me," she started, looking outside the window. "Because if you did, you wouldn't have to wonder and doubt the things I do for you. The things I will and can do for you."
Gray avoided looking at her.
"You didn't just take away the rain. You saved me from everything it stands for, everything it brings," she continued.
"Had it not been you who I fought that day— I would have been dead. I would have fallen from that roof and died."
"Or maybe I wouldn't. Maybe I would have survived that, or I would have won against anyone I fought. But, even then, I would have been dead a hundred times after; forever searching for something, someone missing. Something like this. The worst part is I wouldn't have known what this is, I would have been searching for something I didn't know and I wouldn't have known that I was already dead, even if I was alive, because I do not know any kind of living that's not constant rain and darkness."
"You saved me again that day, when y—", she choked. "When you died."
Upon hearing her small sob, Gray looked at her.
"You died but thank the heavens you came back. I thank them, I thank you so much for coming back because if you didn't, I would have died a thousand times after. I would have lived knowing I lost the only reason why I even did," she cried, with utter pain in her eyes and with a bitter smile.
Gray's chest felt tight.
"And I know how this must sound for you, b–but I’m so grateful for everyone who loved you enough—who loved so much that they kept you alive. That you kept you alive, even though it pained you to do so. Even though I know you would rather be anything than alive, shouldering the responsibility of being alive and not understanding why they chose what they chose to do."
"Even then, I still thank them. Because just with you being alive, you already saved so many people and inspired many more. You saved me, even if you don't understand how."
Gray didn't know what to say, so he continued to stare at the girl who was trying hard to wipe her tears and nose.
"T–the choice I took back then with Invel, I don't regret it. I know you're angry at me for choosing that, I know you're angry at yourself because you think you couldn't protect me, I know you still don't understand why," she looked at his eyes with determination. "But I want you to know that what I did was my choice and no one, not even you, can take it away from me. Do you know why?" she looked at him with eyes that challenged him to dare defy her.
"Because I love you. This is what people do for the people they love. And–and Juvia knows how you think about yourself; like you're this sort of monster, like an abyss that sucks everything and everyone you love to nothingness," she winced at her words, knowing how untrue they are. "But I want you to know that this love I have for you, that anyone has for you; that you being loved by people, is not a curse."
"This love is a testament to everything that you have ever given us, given me. This is everything that you taught me and more. Something beautiful and breath-taking like this could never be a curse," she smiled with all her sincerity, and at that moment, she looked the most beautiful she could possibly be.
"Gray-sama, you just have to accept that people could love you more than you could ever understand. That someone out there, a person could love you more than life itself because you showed them what it's like to live." Gray felt a heavy lump in his throat.
She took his hand and placed it over her chest and looked at him like she was begging for him to understand. Understand that, "this life is yours. Every beat this beats is yours, has been yours, ever since you caused it to do so. I will never be afraid to dedicate to you the song this beats because I love you and whatever I do to this feeling, no one will be able to do anything to take it away from me— like what Invel tried to do."
"You don't need to reciprocate this, Gray-sama. I want you to, of course, but you don't need to. I don't need you to. It's my choice to love you and everything that I do because of it is my choice to do so. I love you so I would want the best for you, and the best I want for you is to be alive and living with the friends and family you love
With all of your heart. Juvia will fight with all of everything she has to keep it that way."
"Ever since the day you saved me, this life has been yours and I would not want it in any other way. I would rather die knowing that this is yours, than live knowing you're not there to take the love that I have to give to you." at this, she let go of his hands but continued to look directly at him.
"There's only so much that I could do, only so much I could offer, Gray-sama. If I have to give up everything that you saved in me to save you who gave me everything I have known and ever hoped for, then I will. Because I love you. Because that's what people who have something to care for do. It's what you have done and it's what you will do," she said with certainty.
"But now, in this moment, I am alive and I came back to you. I am alive because you were there to wait for me, to hope for me to come back. And I did. Know that it's because I love you—and you to me, even as just a friend—that I was able to come back whole and alive. That I was even able to live up until now. You saved me back then and you're saving me every day after, even up to this moment. So don't ever think for one second that you failed me and yourself because you didn't. You never did."
"I love you, and that's all there is to it. I love you. That's all the answer you have ever needed all this time— love. People do things because of love. I chose to die back then, but now I’m choosing to live, exactly because I love you." she finished with tears streaming down her eyes.
Even with the red and exhaustion obvious from her eyes, the puff of her cheeks, and a little snot from crying too much, Juvia looked so beautiful, it shook his core and pained him.
He stares at her in wonder, "I— i don't know what to say—"
He feels it coming, everything that he's bottled up. Suddenly, he felt all the exhaustion; felt it heavy on his throat.
He didn't know what to say so he breaks.
He breaks for all that he's lost, for all the people and everything that they ever stood for that vanished from his grasp. He breaks for all the heartbreak and pain he's ever experienced. For all the choices he didn't want to take, but had to. For all the years of building impenetrable walls; for stopping himself countless of times out of preservation; for all of the things he wishes he's done. He breaks for all the nightmares that plagued his nights and the dreams that he's lost; for the nights he wished he wasn't alive—wanted to stop living, just so the pain would stop and he could finally be at peace.
He breaks from the guilt of being the one who survived; for all of the questions that was left unanswered. Why was it him? Why did it have to happen to him? What did he do so wrong that he deserved to lose everyone he's ever held dear? Why was the one who's left? Why am I alive— when will it ever stop— because all that he's ever wanted was for everything to stop, stop, stop.
And he breaks.
He breaks because he's lived his life holding unto the sharpened edge of revenge—of wishes that it would somehow placate the crying child inside of him.
He breaks for all he has, all he's earned. For the endless friendship Fairy Tail has given him. For the bond and trust they give him. For being the family he needed when all was lost.
He breaks for the unwavering love Juvia gives him, the only love that stayed and came back. He breaks because he did not lose her. He breaks for the eyes that stare back at him with pure love and wonder; for the girl whose hands held him steady and supported him along the way; for a smile that instantly makes everything right in his world.
He breaks because she's alive.
He breaks because finally, finally, he can go on. He breaks because he can feel it; that finally he can live. Finally, days of pure bliss and nights when he can have some decent sleep, hopefully with a blue haired woman in his arms, are within his grasp. Finally, there's future. Finally, there's peace.
He breaks for all that he can finally have. He breaks because finally everything makes sense, finally he understands. Finally, the world is turning and everything is right again.
He breaks because finally he's not hanging on his past, finally he can look forward.
So he says, "Thank you."
"Thank you, Juvia." he sobbed.
He took her hand and placed it on his lips as he continued to sob, uttering words of apology and appreciation, declarations of commitment, hopes of something more, and promises of future.
Juvia cries with him, because there it is—at last, a chance for both of them to be happy. At last, a future that they're both willing to take.
"I love you, Gray-sama," Juvia said with finality.
"Thank you," Gray answered.
I love you too, his heart whispered.
A/N: Was supposed to fully participate for this year's celebration, but I had so many deadlines, so this is the first and only work I have at the moment. Back then, this was just an excerpt of some sort; an unfinished thing I did since I really just wanted Juvia and Gray to have a sincere talk about what happened between them. I initially didn't do Gray's part, this was literally just Juvia's whole monologue LMAO idk if I did my original work justice but, yeaaah here's the finished product. I hope you guys enjoyed it! Reviews and comments are always welcome 💙

Raise Me Up (Gruvia Day 2021)
Masterlist
Relationships: Gruvia

Summary: Gray gives Juvia a lift to reach an apple, and thinks about all the times she’s lifted his spirits in the past.
A/N: So I know I haven’t written anything for gruvia in awhile, and I didn’t even know today was Gruvia Day! But this art combined with my excitement for Fall led me to write this quick little drabble for the day.
-------------------
“Who the hell hires wizards to pick apples?” Gray asks. “This ain’t a job if you don’t even need to use your magic for it.”
“It’s not a job.” Juvia reminds the bored ice mage. “This local farmer wanted to thank Fairy Tail for all of their help keeping his crops safe from monsters. So he let us get first pick of these apples!”
They look around at their other guild members in the orchard picking apples.
“I could probably use some of these apples to make homemade baby food.” Levy notes as she picks an apple from a low branch. “If only I was tall enough to pick enough apples to do that.” She grumbles.
“Don’t worry Lev, that’s why you picked a strong, tall guy to be your kid’s dad.” Gajeel says and picks a few apples to put in her basket.
“And I can reach the ones at the tops of the trees too.” Panther Lily says.
“Hey Lucy! Look how many apples I can fit in my mouth!” Natsu’s muffled voice shouts followed by Lucy’s cry of panic.
“Natsu spit those out! You’ll choke!” She exclaims and drops her basket to run over to him.
“Perhaps Juvia could bake Gray-sama an apple pie with these!” Juvia cheerfully suggests.
“Yeah, I’d like that.” Gray says, blushing.
Juvia notices a beautiful red apple high up on one of the trees.
“Oh that one looks perfect!” Juvia admires. “If only Juvia was tall enough to reach it...”
As soon as she finished her sentence Gray was at her side to see if he could get the apple for her. Juvia giggles when she notices that his shirt and jacket are missing. She’d have to find them later but she didn’t mind. Especially since he was being so helpful to her with apple picking. Except this apple was too high up for even him to reach!
“Hm, I don’t think either of us can reach it.” Gray says. “And we promised the farmer we wouldn’t use our magic in the orchard because that would risk damaging the trees.”
“I suppose Juvia could ask Lily, Happy or Carla to fly up to get it for her.” Juvia suggests.
Gray felt his heart sink. If he was going to be her man then he should be able to help her with everything. He wanted to be the one to make her happy.
“No, you don’t need to ask them. I can help you get it.” Gray says, thinking of an idea that makes him blush.
“How?” Juvia asks curiously.
Gray gets down on one knee and Juvia screams in surprise and joy.
“Oh my! Gray-sama is on one knee! He’s going to propose to Juvia!” She shouts.
Gray’s face turns bright red from the suggestion and the fact that all of their nearby guild members heard that and were now staring at them, thinking they were about to witness a huge milestone for their guild-mates.
“What! No! No no no no!” Gray quickly shouts to both Juvia and everyone watching them. “I’m kneeling so that you can climb on my shoulders so I can lift you up to reach the apple!”
“Oh.” Juvia says, slightly disappointed until she realizes she’ll be sitting on Gray’s shoulders. “Oh...that’s a wonderful idea Gray-sama!”
Both of them were blushing as Juvia climbs onto his shoulders.
The water mage couldn’t help but let out a small gasp as Gray places his hands on her thighs and stands up.
“Oh Gray-sama...” Juvia mumbles.
“Just hurry up and grab the apple.” He urges, feeling incredibly flustered by the fact that his face was pressed against her bare thighs.
“Juvia will.” She says. “But Juvia also likes the view from up here.”
Since they were at the end of the row of trees, by looking around the tree she could see all the way down the orchard, to admire the red, yellow, and orange leaves of the other trees surrounding the farm, highlighted by the light from the sunset.
“It’s beautiful.” Juvia sighs.
“Yeah. It sure is.” Gray says, looking up at her.
This farm was absolutely scenic as hell, but what made it more beautiful was the fact that Juvia was able to see it.
Juvia had never even seen the sun before they met. He brought light into her world, and she had been in love with him ever since. And over time Gray realized that she had done the same for him by being by his side and lifting him up when he was down. They both brought each other out of the darkness and into the light. They were each other’s light. Reminding each other of the good things in life, and what true happiness and love felt like.
“Got it.” Juvia says as she picks the apple from the branch.
She admires it before looking down at Gray and smiling as she brushes a lock of hair behind her ear so she can get an unobstructed view of his face.
“Thank you Gray-sama. Juvia loves you.” Juvia says, making Gray’s heart swell and his grip on her thighs tighten briefly.
Juvia had never been shy about her feelings. She always knew exactly what to say and what to do. And it may have taken awhile for him to get there, but Gray was learning how to do the same for her. To lift her up when she was down and be there for her like she always was for him.
“You’re welcome Juvia. I love you too.” Gray says.
